Cluster1 - Hsphere upgrade to 3.0

We've announced the Cluster1 Upgrade almost a week ago now via email to all our clients, now we will be sending reminders again this weekend with a much shorter more concise message. Our goal in this upgrade is to bring new features(mostly on the linux/mysql side) and to minimize customer impact, we will be working around the clock the first weekend in October to see this through.

Resellers, please remember to make your clients aware of outages from 3min - 3 hours during this upgrade time, as there will be permissions changes on windows servers, reboots, and other software upgrades at the same time.
You can give a notice to all your clients by going to your reseller panel, Search, Generic.
then only on plan status set it to Active accounts, change no other parameters and submit the search; on the results look down near the bottom to Mass Mail, and fill this out type your message and send it to all your clients so they know of the coming upgrades.

Stephen
Operations Manager

General Update

The WinVPS Features mentioned below have been successfully launched:
http://support.jodohost.com/showthread.php?t=10826

Jodolive.com - partially functional but being redesigned from the ground up

We have had some issues with the development side of JodoLive and it will be redeveloped due to this, communications with developers is important, and somewhere along the line they broke down badly. We are giving it a new approach and going back from the ground up. This will mean it is not fully functional for another 6-8 weeks but I hope after that point to have a much more functional tool for all!

Support Desks, while delayed we have stepped back and taken another approach, among those we have setup a dedicated server specifically for handling support operations, this server is live now, we are in the process of configuring services and moving desks over to it. The trials we have done with the Windows VPS support desk have been very good and the customers using the desk have been quite pleased. We are looking forward to expanding this further in the future but initially we will be going forward a bit longer with Cerberus until we have some difficulties with the anonymous support resolved.

Stephen
Operations Manager

The informational portal has some information on it at jodolive.com but it is still a work in progress. The project is NOT finished yet, we know there are bugs, we know the "admin" page is open to the public, it also doesn't work at this point(admin page)

We are continuing to develop it and will be adding some more features in the future as well.

The support desk revisions are nearing completion and we should be opening them before long. We are just waiting on developers to release a new revision with some requested additions.

Stephen

Winvps update, and support system update

WinVPS services are available again, and we will be installing a number of servers over the coming days for them. Plesk 8.2 has made it out with a number of bug fixes and a newly improved backup tool, allowing more control over what is backed up when you run the wizard.

The support system has been going really well in limited testing among our WinVPS clients, we have identified a number of shortcomings in taking it to a full cerberus replacement, but working with the developers to bring it to the table as a full replacement in the coming months. The application interface is very user friendly, and I think it is a marked improvement over cerberus from a tech support admin side and from a client side.

Jodolive portal is nearing completion, I will be making some changes on Sunday on the forum server side to help this process along configuring it for the way the developer has made the application to work.

Stephen
Operations Manager

Update on new support system

This will be my first entry to the blog. I am just providing an update to the new support system post, after an expensive and extensive evaluation, it has been determined that we will not be going with the LivePerson Contact Center Pro, as they did not provide an adequate interface for tickets to be pulled by XML or customer login. Therefore clients would not be able to view their own ticket history, we decided against going this route due to the complications there, and we know clients wish to be able to view their ticket history in detail.

We are still evaluating a number of other options, and have recently tried some new live chat software, for the meantime we are back to using LivePerson for the chat, but this too could change as we seek an integrated support system that will automatically create a ticket (and history) of your chats into a ticket.

Stephen
Operations Manager

Windows VPS - Our New Model

We recently revised our Windows VPS plans, adding more space, disk space and bandwidth. Fundamental to this change was using cheaper (yet reliable) servers. These new servers, are powered by AMD or Intel Dual Core processors, and feature SATA2 RAID1. This may be viewed as a significant downgrade from our older WinVPS servers, that had 2, dual core processors and SCSI hard disks. But, of the 3 or 4 WinVPS servers we have deployed now on the new server platform, the results are clear, the cheaper servers are delivering better performance and reliability than the our more expensive $5000 servers.

Why you may ask? Well, a reduction in server price means we were also able to put lesser WinVPS accounts on each server. While the high-powered servers had about 25 or less accounts, the lower-powered servers have less than 10 accounts. It turns out that Windows behaves much better (lesser threads and memory usage), and on the whole, performs much better. Lesser accounts means a much lower usage of processing power

So the verdict? Sometimes cheaper hardware can win, especially in the competitive world of hosting. Not only are we now delivering better performance, we are offering much more resources at the same price. Our only problem? We just can't meet the demand! Infact, the demand is so high that we are aren't able to install servers fast enough!

Yash (Co-Founder, JodoHost)
